After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:1-3

Jesus Prays for You

My prayers contain a lot of different people and things that I love. They are about the things that I think about the most and the things for which I am overwhelmingly grateful.

Did you know that the night before his death, you were a part of Jesus’ prayer? That’s right. With everything else on his mind as he prepared to die for the sins of the world . . . you were on his mind. You were on his mind because what he was about to do, he did for you. He knew he needed strength to endure the intense suffering necessary to secure your salvation. So, he asked his heavenly Father to give him that strength. He also prayed that you would learn about what he had done for you and that you would come to believe that your sins are forgiven because of what he did.

It is always nice to hear that someone is praying for you. When you share a challenge, you are facing–an illness, a loss, a concern—and a friend or family member says, “I’m praying for you.” It shows they care, and it’s a comforting thing to know. And it is comforting to think of God listening to and answering their prayers.

Now think of Jesus praying for you nearly two thousand years ago. Isn’t it remarkable? Whatever illness, loss, or concern you are facing, take comfort knowing that Jesus is aware of it, and cares enough to pray for you.

Righteous Father, thank you for glorifying Jesus through his death and resurrection. Help me to know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. Amen

Welcome, Vannatta Family!

The Vannatta Family became members at Faith on March 9, 2021 by transferring their membership from Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Lafayette, Indiana. Trevor and Heather are the parents. Their kids from oldest to youngest are Evelyn, Leo, and Simon.

Trevor and Heather answered these questions to tell us a bit about themselves.

How long has your family been attending Faith?

About four months now

What is your vocation?

I am a scientist studying parasites and other diseases.

What are your hobbies?

I do lots of outdoor activities: running, cycling, ultimate frisbee, backpacking, wrestling children.

How would you like to serve the church?

I am an educator by nature. I especially like to discuss my work with diseases, BUT I am also very interested in Christian apologetics (defending the faith philosophically and logically).

What's one way you live out your faith in your life?

I approach my teaching and mentoring as an act of service and use these interactions to discuss apologetics as the opportunity arises.

What is your vocation?

My most favorite job ever: stay-at-home-mom!  But in college, I majored in Community Health Education and minored in Nutrition.

What are your hobbies?

Cooking/baking, rock climbing, hiking, playing piano, watching Netflix way too late at night.

How would you like to serve the church?

I like to make meals for new moms or members who are ill, supplying snacks for Bible study, etc.  I also enjoy putting together gift boxes for college students.

What's one way you live out your faith in your life?

I talk about God's Word with my kids through everyday activities, read Bible stories, etc.

Holy Baptism

Evelyn Opal Pauley (newborn daughter of TJ and Amber Pauley) was baptized at church on May 23 at 1 pm in a private ceremony.

About 30 friends and family of the Pauly's were present.

We rejoice that Evelyn’s sins were washed away and that she is clothed with Christ!

"and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,"

1 Peter 3:21

Confirmation & Affirmation 2020-2021

After having completed the formal Biblical instruction our church offers, young people took the opportunity to confess their faith and to be recognized as communicant members in the May 16 worship service. Some of these young people were confirmed as communicant members. Others were affirmed as communicant members since a public worship service ceremony was not available last May during the shutdown. May the Lord continue to bless these young people as He regularly feeds the Word and Lord's Supper to them, to the benefit of their souls!

Children of Faith Preschool

Thank you so very much for your support of Children of Faith Preschool! We had a full school year overflowing with joy and wonder and play. There were uncertainties as we started in fall, but God proved once again that he will provide. We were blessed to build relationships with 11 of Jesus’ little lambs and their families. The changing circumstances of the world cannot touch our sure foundation as God’s dear children.

Faith's 50th Anniversary

Mark your calendars! On Sunday, June 27, we will celebrate our church's 50th anniversary. There will be a single outdoor service under tents with tables and chairs at 10:30 am. After the service, a catered meal will be served at 12 pm. Please RSVP by Sunday, June 13 by going to our website's homepage or by filling out the bulletin insert and returning to Rachel Krueger's mailbox.

Please note: There will be NO worship on Saturday, June 26.

Vacation Bible School

We are having a one-day Vacation Bible School for the children of our congregation and anyone they may want to invite. All ages welcome.

It is scheduled for Saturday, July 24 from 9 am – 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided so please register no later than Sunday, July 4 so we know how many to prepare for. Registration forms will be in your church mailboxes and can be turned in to Terra Thaldorf's mailbox.

Also, we need many volunteers to help so please consider signing up. The sheet is on the ushers' stand.

Did You Know

Even though Faith does not have an active Pioneers' program anymore, we still collect aluminum cans. You can leave bags of cans (crushed or not) inside the church shed. The key for the shed is hanging on the side of the church mailboxes. If you have a lot of bags, please contact Peter Stern as he keeps them in his barn until there is a trailerful and then cashes them in. The Board of Education disperses the money received from the cans between our various church groups.

Women of Faith News

We held our final meeting in May before breaking for the summer.

There are several events coming up that I want you all to be aware of:

We have a Nature walk/picnic planned for Saturday, June 12 at Carpenter Nature Center in Hastings at 11:15 am.

We’ll leave church at 10:45am (following bible study) for those who want to carpool.
Pack a picnic lunch and plan to join us!
Reminder: Bible study is June 12 at 9:30 am.

We are providing floral table decorations for our anniversary celebration on Sunday, June 27. Donations of cut garden flowers and volunteers to help make the arrangements are needed. Let me know if you have flowers to donate or are willing to help create simple arrangements on Saturday, June 26.
