Worship in Focus

As a member of a local church you might join the “Board of Trustees” to help supervise the church grounds. You might join "Women of Faith" to encourage other women and to spread God's Word. To be a member of God’s church means God has led you to make this confession about Jesus, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). It means more than that though. Enjoy learning through September 27th what it means to be part of “The Church…”

Sermon Series - Today we continue our series, "The Christian Faith, One Word at a Time." Each Sunday through Sep. 27th we look at another word of the Christian faith based on the book of Romans.

Closing Hymn: During "The Church…" worship series, as our closing hymn we sing selected verses of "Lord Jesus Christ, the Church's Head" to the tune of "God's Word is Our Great Heritage." The purpose is to continually point our focus back to God's church and everything in it (Christ our rock, the means of grace, sanctification, hope of future glory).

TODAY'S WORSHIP FOCUS: "The Church..." ... is militant: first the cross, then the crown. “Never!” said Peter, when his Savior announced that he (Jesus) must suffer, die, and rise to put sin to death. So too our sinful natures say, “Never!” to the idea of dying to sin. We are thankful that Jesus saw the need for his cross before the crown. So, we pray that we would have the same mindset as Christ, finding joy and delight in his challenging words for us. He says, “Deny yourself and follow me!”

Personal Prayer Before Worship: Dear Jesus, you carried your cross and died for sins you did not commit. You want each Christian to carry their own cross by denying their sinful nature, which desires sinful things of this world, and to follow you. Forgive me when my walk of faith strays. Point my focus back to you, my Savior, who carried the cross to Calvary for me, so that I may follow you. Amen.
