OPENING HYMN

Hymn 81, Arise and Shine in Splendor

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God, you sent your one and only Son as the Word of life for our eyes to see and our ears to hear. Help us believe what the Scriptures proclaim about him and do the things that are pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.(sung) Amen.

FIRST LESSON

Isaiah 6:1-8 (printed on back of worship folder)

When Isaiah was called to be a prophet of the Lord, he was given a glimpse of heaven. He saw the holy Lord seated on his throne, surrounded by angels who were praising him. Isaiah was troubled because he was an unworthy sinner. The Lord assured Isaiah that his sin had been removed. Isaiah then accepted the Lord’s call to be his prophet.

PSALM OF THE DAY

Psalm 85 (also found on page 97 of the hymnal)

SECOND LESSON

1 Corinthians 14:12b-20 (printed on back of worship folder)

The Lord gives many different gifts to his people, just as he gave the gift of speaking in tongues to many of his first century believers. He gives each of us gifts and abilities that we might “build up the church” by instructing others with the gospel.

GOSPEL

Luke 5:1-11 (printed on back of worship folder)

Jesus calls his first disciples. A miraculous catch of fish prove to these fisherman and to us that Jesus is who he says he is. Peter, James and John left their fishing and became “fishers of men.”
