Hymn 55, Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful
Genesis 3:8-15: the Seed of the woman will crush the serpent's head. The need for a Savior from sin for all people stemmed from mankind's rebellion in the Garden of Eden.
Hymn 23, Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel
Genesis 22:15-18: God's promises to Abraham. God further revealed how his plan of salvation would take place by promising Abraham that the Savior would come from his line.
Isaiah 9:2,6-7: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light. Through Isaiah the prophet, God reveals the broad scope and effects of the coming Savior's saving work.
Micah 5:2-4: A Branch from the stem of Jesse. The location of the Savior's birth is prophesied.
Hymn 50, Once in Royal David's City
Luke 1:26-38: The angel Gabriel announces the birth of the Messiah to Mary.
Hymn 67, What Child Is This
Matthew 1:18-25 & Luke 2:1-7: The birth of Jesus.
Luke 2:8-20: The shepherds visit the manger. We join to worship Jesus for the saving work he came to do for us.
Hymn 63, Angels We Have Heard on High
Matthew 2:1-12: The Magi worship the newborn King. Some time after the birth of Jesus, the Magi (or Wisemen) came to see the prophesied Savior.
Hymn 51, I Am So Glad When Christmas Comes
John 1:1-14: The mystery of the incarnation. The miracle of Immanuel, God with us, is the basis for our hope of eternal life. We have salvation only through his saving work of paying for all sin on the cross. Guaranteeing God's free gift of salvation is the resurrection that shows us that all who believe on His name will rise to eternal life.
Hymn 64, Let Us All with Gladsome Voice
O God, who makes us glad with the yearly remembrance of the birth of your only Son, Jesus Christ, grant that as we joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, so we may with sure confidence behold him when he shall come to be our judge, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
DISTRIBUTION OF CANDLES
The pastor will light a candle from the Christ candle; the ushers will light their candles from the pastor’s candle; the ushers will then light the candle of the worshiper in each pew nearest to the aisle. Please keep lit candles upright and tip your unlit candle to receive the flame from an upright lit candle.
Candles are extinguished.
