Welcome to all worshipers of Jesus! In revealing his saving work for us in Christ, God moves us to obey him and declare his praises before the world.

Order of Service

Service of Word and Sacrament, page 26 in the front part of the hymnal

Opening Hymn

Dear Lord, to Your True Servants Give, #542

Prayer of the Day

O God, protector of all the faithful, you alone make strong; you alone make holy. Show us your mercy and forgive our sins day by day. Guide us through our earthly lives that we do not lose the things you have prepared for us in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen (sung)

First Lesson

Exodus 19:2-8a

The Old Testament people of God were the creation of his divine love. In live, God saw their slavery and brought judgment upon their Egyptian captors. In love, God carried them on Eagles’ wings to himself. At Mount Sinai, God lovingly set them apart from the rest of the world for the holy purpose of bringing our Redeemer into the world. Then as now, God lavish grace is the motivation to obey him fully and keep his commandments.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 100, page 104 in front of the hymnal

Second Lesson

Romans 5:6-11

The inspired apostle reveals that while we were still “powerless,” “ungodly,” “sinners,” “God’s enemies,” Christ died for us and reconciled us to God. That was the hard part! If God’s love paid such a high price to declare us holy, is it any trouble for him to save us from the coming wrath and bring us to the enjoyment of eternal life? Not at all!

Gospel Lesson

Matthew 9: 35—10:8

Jesus had compassion on the crowds who were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” His solution was twofold: His disciples are to “ask the Lord of the harvest...to send out workers.” Then they are called to “go...to the lost sheep of Israel.” The scope, the power, the message, and all things are provided by the One who calls them.
