Sunday Worship at 9:30am, Spiritual Growth Minutes at 9:08am

July 31, 2016                                                                Pentecost 11

Welcome to all worshipers of Jesus! To know Christ in faith is the meaning and purpose of this life. Jesus tells the parable of a “fool” who thought the amount of material possessions he had were what gave his life value. The writer of Ecclesiastes and Paul also warn against letting the things of this world blind us to our real goal—eternal life.

Opening Hymn

Forgive Us, Lord, #482

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 34, page 80 in the front part of the hymnal

Lesson

Ecclesiastes 1:2;2:18-26

Chasing after things in order to give purpose to our lives will result in the Teacher's lament: “Everything is meaningless.” The key to being content is recognizing that all things come “from the Lord our God."

What Is the World to Me, #477

Sermon

Luke 12:13-21

Prayer of the Day

O God, you reveal your mighty power chiefly in showing mercy and kindness. Grant us the full measure of your grace that we may obtain your promises and become partakers of your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Closing Hymn

Almighty Father, Heaven and Earth, #480
