Opening Hymn

The Strife Is O'er, the Battle Done, #148

Prayer of the Day

Father of lights, every good and perfect gift comes from you. Inspire us to think those things that are true and long for those things that are good, that we may always make our petitions according to your gracious will; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen (sung)

First Lesson

Acts 14:8-18

Instead of proclaiming salvation himself, Jesus now uses faithful preachers, such as Paul and Barnabas to share the gospel with others. At Lystra, Paul and Barnabas proclaimed the message of God's love and healed a lame man. When the people wanted to worship them as gods, Paul and Barnabas made it clear that they were only the human messengers for the true God.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 65, page 89 in the front part of the hymnal

Second Lesson

Revelation 21:10-14,22,23

The center of the Church is the Lamb, our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of the glory and splendor enjoyed by the saints of heaven. They do not need a sun or moon for the “light of the world” is also the “light” and “lamp” of heaven. The Lamb will continue to be with us and will finally bring us into his splendor.

Gospel Lesson

John 14:23-29

Jesus tells the disciples that he will leave them and return to his Father. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to teach us all things. He tells us not to worry for he leaves us hi peace which lasts forever.
