Welcome to all worshipers of Jesus! In spite of our sinfulness, God offers us salvation and deliverance.
Order of Service
Service of Word and Sacrament, page 26 in the front part of the hymnal
Opening Hymn
The Lamb, #714
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, look with favor on your humble servants and stretch out the right hand of your power to defend us against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen (sung)
First Lesson
Exodus 3:1-8b,10-15
Because the Israelites suffered in slavery in Egypt, the ever-present and all-powerful God called Moses to lead them out of Egypt and deliver them from their misery.
Psalm of the Day
Psalm 38, page 82 in the front part of the hymnal
Second Lesson
1 Corinthians 10:1-13
St. Paul reminds us that even some of the chosen Israelites fell into grievous sins and lost God's free gift of salvation. If we trust in our own effort to stand firm in the faith, we also will fall. God, however, provides the strength we need to overcome every temptation.
Gospel Lesson
Luke 13:1-9
Tragedies and hardships can strike anyone at anytime. They are reminders that this world is infected with sin. God is patient with us sinners, but if we continue to resist his will for our lives, we will be cut down in the judgment, which is the greatest tragedy of all.
