Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, you sent your Son to proclaim your kingdom and to teach with authority. Anoint us with the power of your Spirit that we, too, may bring good news to the afflicted, bind up the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captive; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. First Lesson

Isaiah 61:1-6

Speaking through the prophet Isaiah 700 years before he took on human flesh, Jesus explains that he was anointed, or chosen, by God to proclaim the good news of salvation to sinners.

All believers belong to the body of Christ. There is to be no strife, bitterness, or jealousy among us since we have all been united by the forgiving love of Christ.

Luke 4:14-21

In the synagogue in Nazareth in Galilee, Jesus reads a prophecy from Isaiah about the promised Messiah and announces that he is the Lord's Anointed, the fulfillment of the prophecy.
