Opening Hymn- God Himself Is Present, #224

Prayer of the Day: God of all power and might, you are the giver of all that is good. Help us love you with all our heart, strengthen us in true faith, provide us with all we need, and keep us safe in your care; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

First Lesson- Exodus 33:12-23

After Israel had repented of their idol worship at Mount Sinai, God promised Moses that his Presence would be with them to guide them and give them rest. But Moses boldly asked to see God's full visible glory. Since sinful man cannot endure the full glory of God, Moses was not allowed to see God's face but only his passing by.

Psalm of the Day- Psalm 145, page 119 in front of the hymnal

Second Lesson- Romans 7:15-25a

Though a Christian is not dominated by sin any longer, there is, inside each Christian, a war between the new man and the sinful nature. Each is bent on destroying the other. We cry out with St Paul, “Who will rescue me from this body of death?” Thanks be to God! The victory is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Gospel Lesson- Matthew 11:25-30

The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven have been hidden from those who, in their conceit, consider themselves wise and learned. However, the Father committed his plan of salvation to the Son. The Son, in turn, calls to himself those who are weary and burdened by their sin. Jesus is the rest their souls crave.

Hymn of the Day- If God Himself Be for Me, #419

Closing Hymn- Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me, #389
