May 31, 2020 Day of Pentecost

Welcome to worship with us! Today we celebrate the Day of Pentecost, which was the day over 2000 years ago that God sent the promised Holy Spirit to Jesus' disciples. God promised the Holy Spirit centuries before that day through the prophet Joel, "I will pour out my Spirit" (2:28). The Spirit is still poured out on us through the gospel in Word and sacraments. The Spirit empowers us to be witnesses of Christ's resurrection for the world. — Personal prayer...

May 24, 2020 ~ Easter 7

Welcome to worship with us! The Redeemer lives! This last Sunday of the Easter season follows the Sunday of Jesus' ascension. Jesus has removed his visible presence from us, but he has not removed his effective presence from us. He is fully present in the message of the gospel, which tells us he prayed for us the night before he died. He prays for us still in heaven that we be set apart from sin. God has answered his prayer.   —    Personal prayer...

May 21, 2020 ~ Ascension

Welcome to worship with us! Vererable Bede was the great teacher of the middle ages, the first great historian of the English language, and a devout man of God. He died on May 25, 735 AD, on the great Ascension Vigil. From his deathbed he spoke the words that match the tone for the day of Ascension. The tone is one of praise to our triumphant Ruler Jesus. Jesus ascended to sit at God’s right hand 40 days after he rose from the dead and he lives to rule all things for the Church. As...

May 17, 2020 ~ Easter 6

Welcome to worship with us! The Redeemer Lives! This Jesus Christ lives to call me to live for him. Jesus' promise of another Counselor is a loaded one: the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to do what Jesus asks. This Sunday's lessons teach that love for our risen Lord means obedience to his commands.   — Personal prayer before worship: Lord Jesus, you are life! This means you are holy - pure, sinless, set apart. This means you are righteous - morally perfect. Because...

May 10, 2020 Easter 5

Welcome to worship with us! The Redeemer Lives! This Jesus Christ lives to be the only Way to heaven. He doesn't say, "I show you the way," or "I have the truth," or "I lead to life." He says, "I am the way and the truth and the life." Are those words of Jesus enough for you? We may have a hard time saying, "Yes," because we think there are many other ways, and truths, and lives to live to find peace. You can trust that Jesus is enough. He...

May 3, 2020 Easter 4

Welcome to worship with us on this Good Shepherd Sunday!  The Redeemer Lives! Today we hear, He lives to be my Good Shepherd. Today’s service only infers that Jesus is our Good Shepherd though. An even greater focus is Jesus’ “I am” statement that sets the direction for this Sunday. He says, “I am the gate for the sheep” (John 10:7). The world leads the sheep, like you, me and all believers in Christ, to believe that there are other...

April 26, 2020 ~ Easter 3

Welcome to worship with us! The Redeemer Lives! Today's service gives us the following perspective of our living Redeemer, Jesus Christ: He lives to restore my Hope. The hope of eternal life is founded in Christ. God promised this hope in the Garden of Eden and throughout the ages, but cultural expectations can color our view of Scripture so we fail to see our Messiah as he truly is. Hope is restored for us when we are pointed back to our resurrected Lord and his...

April 19, 2020 ~ Easter 2

Welcome to worship with us! All the service themes for the Sundays of Easter this year are keyed to the Gospel message of the season: The Redeemer Lives! Today's service gives us the following perspective of our living Redeemer: He lives to give me proof and peace. When Jesus physically appeared to his disciples multiple times, he proved he had risen. That led to peace for them. Now Jesus uses his Word, the Lord's Supper, and Baptism to give us...

April 12, 2020 ~ Easter Sunday

Welcome to worship with us! After forty days of repentance and prayer, the Church bursts forth in jubilant praise at the Resurrection of our Lord. The alleluias and glorias which were muted for Lent ring out again as the Bride of Christ welcomes her Bridegroom back from the dead. Easter is the pinnacle of the Church Year, the oldest festival and season celebrated by the worshiping Church. For a full week-of-weeks (49 days) the Church celebrates the resurrection of Christ on the Sundays of...

April 10, 2020 ~ Good Friday

Welcome and good afternoon. Darkness descended on the world that day as God draped Creation in the darkness of mourning. For the Light of the world was flickering out; the great Prince of the heavenly kingdom was dying. Though guiltless, he was tortured and cursed; though innocent, he died among criminals. Who could ever call this day "good?" Only those who know the truth of the cross: Sing my tongue the glorious battle; sing the ending of the fray. Now above the cross, the...
